22nd Edition of
Program Cascais Surf for Employability
​
The Program Cascais Surf for Employability aims to promote the employability of young people and adults who are unemployed or looking for their first job.
​
Surfing is foundation of the program that combined with other tools will support participants in the design and implementation of their personal/professional path, enhancing the activity and technical know-how of the various possible professions in the area of surfing.
​
The program takes place at Nova SBE in Carcavelos and the surf lessons are at Carcavelos Beach.
During the 5 weeks participants will experience:

Weekly Surf and Yoga classes;

Individual Coaching – Support for Personal and Professional Development;

Group Coaching – Support to Personal and Professional Development;

Training Actions in the areas of:

Economics, Accounting and Finance,
-
Communication and Marketing,
-
Active job search,
-
Management and Planning,
-
Entrepreneurship.

The five-week cycle ends with a two-day trip with participants reflecting on the skills learned and experiencing new activities called Deep in the Ocean (to be defined).
​
After the end of the program, participants can also have 16 weeks of individual mentoring for the development of their project.

Context
Integrated in the Mission defined by the municipal executive of “Making Cascais the best place to live for a day or a lifetime”, the municipality of Cascais has been developing a strategy that in terms of Employment, Economy and Innovation aims to promote a territory competitive and prosperous through the generation of an environment and an ecosystem that enhance the attraction of companies, job creation and the development of entrepreneurship.
At the same time, the Cascais City Council (CMC) has been developing a series of initiatives to promote employability aimed at developing skills that facilitate the insertion of citizens in the labor market.
The current job market in the VICA World - Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous - requires constant updating and the development of new attitudes and skills adjusted to this reality.
The Surf Social Wave Association - aims to promote the development of employability skills for young people and adults in search of their first job or unemployed through surfing, supporting them in the design and implementation of their personal / professional path, enhancing their activity and technical know-how of the various possible work contexts in the surfing area and beyond.
Promotion and Target
It is promoted by Surf Social Wave Association and the Cascais City Hall, through the Talent Promotion and Employability Division (DEPT) of the Talent Promotion Department (DPT).
This initiative is aimed at people over 18 years of age who are unemployed.
Goals
The Objectives of the Surf Social Wave Project are:
1) Empower young people and adults with their first experiences with the world of Surf
2) Facilitate and support the transition from a job search or unemployment situation to the world of work
3) To promote in young people and adults, active and effective attitudes in the construction / reconstruction of their personal and professional future
Activities
The program integrates the following activities:
Individual Coaching
One-on-one sessions to help set goals to achieve the desired change. During the process, the participant goes through stages of learning and self knowledge, about their qualities, points of improvement, behaviors and limiting beliefs.
Group Coaching
Group sessions where subjects of interest to the participants are addressed according to the needs identified by the facilitators, aiming to promote the personal development of the participants.
Training Actions
Sessions with professionals and academic professors in areas relevant to the development of Employability and Entrepreneurship
(economics, communication and marketing, digital tools, management and planning and entrepreneurship).
Inspirational Speakers
Lectures with professionals who bring stories of their inspiring lives, share their successes, failures and motivations.

Surf
Weekly Surfing Classes
is a tool for personal development and empowerment, it acts as an unblocker of emotions and brings many valuable learnings such as learning to be resilient and live in the moment.
Yoga
Weekly Classes
Work on well-being for a healthy body and healthy mind.
Deep in the Ocean
Final activivity
participants reflect on the lessons learned. (to be defined)

Mentoring
For 16 weeks, participants can have follow-up individual sessions.
*The Program may happen in English.
Session Locations
The sessions will take place in person at Nova SBE in Carcavelos with the participation of professors from Nova SBE, the City ​​Council of Cascais, Randstad and also professionals from the respective areas; with the exception of Surf lessons that take place in Carcavelos.
